Some of the recent restrictions that were introduced to limit the spread of COVID-19 have been gradually relaxed or removed altogether (in Dubai), and as there has been a deluge of communications coming from various sources, some messages seem to have been missed/lost in the clutter.
I noticed this whenever I share a workout on social media, specifically outdoor exercises that started before 6 AM and when I am not wearing a mask.
I’m basically writing this post to share its link with anyone who asks the following common questions:
- Can you go outside to workout before the curfew ends at 6 AM?
- As the answer to the first question is yes, the natural second question is whether people can drive to other areas to workout before 6 AM.
- Don’t you have to wear a mask?
Answers shared below with links to tweets from the Dubai Media Office.
Q. Can you go outside to workout before the curfew ends at 6 AM?
A. Yes (At the time of writing, Fajr/morning prayer is at around 4 AM).
Q. Can I drive to other areas to workout before 6 AM?
A. Back in April (at the start of Ramadan) when restrictions were relaxed, the official communication stated that people can work out for 1-2 hours in “their area of residence”. If you ask me, the answer to the question should be no. If you are keen to find out 100%, I recommend calling Dubai Police as they are the ones likely to stop you if it is against the rules.
In my opinion, the exception to work out from Fajr prayer onwards means that this is only in one’s area, in other words, I do not think it is allowed to go and drive to Shawka, Al Qudra, Kite Beach etc. at 4 AM.
Q. Don’t you have to wear a mask?
A. Not if you are “engaged in strenuous exercise” as per the below tweet, but you should have the mask on you (lowered on your chin). What is the definition of “strenuous exercise”? I don’t know.
Stay safe everyone!
